Comments: On June 23 members of the Cabarrus Amateur Radio
Society (CARS) ARES in conjunction with the Cabarrus Co.
Sheriff
communication (CCSO) and the Cabarrus County Emergency Management, using
the CARS amateur call K4WC participated in the NC SIEC interoperability
test COMMX09 and simulated Earthquake exercise for Buncombe county
from
the Cabarrus County EOC.

The following Communications modes and frequencies were used and Cabarrus
County EOC communicated with the following between 0730 and 1400L :
HF (3923/ 7392 Mhz. Tarheel emergency net)
VHF- 2 meter (146.655 repeater Local comms)
Sat Phone ( checked in with Western Branch office)
VIPER NC statewide 800 system (checked in on ALPHA ONE -A1 net)
Summary:
Communication was satisfactory on all the above modes from the EOC. We
did not check out the Amateur digital (Packet) on VHF or HF as the new
equipment needs to be configured and tested.
Further configuration and testing of the new equipment will be done in the
near future and a SOP developed for the amateur radio equipment at the EOC.

Iredell County participated in the Earthquake exercise with checkins on the HF net. We also participated in Field Day and setup a display of brochures. We had 14 scouts participate and earn several merit badges.
